TREND REPORT: Pointy Bras On The Rise

The popularity of Mad Men and stars like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa have started a surprising retro trend: pointy bras.  The resurgence of the Madonna-esque John-Paul Gaultier bullet style bras seems almost inevitable.  Yet this trend didn’t start in with Madonna and the 1980′s.  It comes from an earlier era and from and unlikely creator.

The billionaire publishing mogul Howard Huges, a one-time film producer, famously used his skills as an aircraft designer to make the most of Jane Russell’s assets.  It was actually Marilyn Monroe who made the pointy bra look “infamous” in the 1950′s  as a way to sex up a basic crew neck sweater.

This time around, the trend has started in London, with sales of cone shaped bras up 33% from last year.  Experts are attributing the trend to a focus on women’s curves typically prevalent during an economic crisis. “Throughout the last century the trend for feminine pointy shaped bras experienced a renaissance following times of a toughened economy, marking a return of unabashed femininity as women seek to have more fun with fashion as a form of escapism,
