Caroline Seger

Caroline Seger (born March 19, 1985), is a Swedish football player from Helsingborg. She plays for the Swedish Women's National Team and the Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer. From 2005 to 2009, she played for Linköpings FC.

Seger played for Linköpings FC as a midfielder from 2005 to 2009. She was also the club's captain. Linköpings FC finished in the top four of the Damallsvenskan in all four of Seger's seasons with the team. Their highest finishes were 2nd place in 2008 and 1st place in 2009.

She was honored as the rookie of the year in the Damallsvenskan 2005 and midfielder of the year in 2006.

She signed a new one-year contract, for 2009 season, with Linköping in the autumnn of 2008. In September of 2009, the expansion Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer announced their intention to draft her with their first pick in the 2009 international draft. In December 2009, she signed a three-year contract with Philadelphia . Her first season with the Independence will begin in April 2010.

Kelly Smith

Kelly Jayne Smith, MBE (born 29 October 1978, in Watford) is an English football forward currently playing for Boston Breakers of Women's Professional Soccer and is a member of the England women's national football team.

Smith debuted for the England National Team on 1 November 1995, three days after turning 17. The 1-1 draw against Italy was played at Roker Park and Smith won Player of the Match from her position on the left-wing.

Her first international goal came on the occasion of her second cap, against Croatia on 19 November 1995. Smith scored an injury-time penalty in England's 5-0 win at the Valley.

When healthy, she is generally considered to be one of the world's top female players; former United States head coach April Heinrichs asserted that Smith would be an automatic choice for the United States Women's National Team if she had been eligible, and Vera Pauw, the Dutch coach, called Kelly "the best player in the World" after she scored a hat-trick against the Netherlands in a 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier in 2006.

She has competed in the 2001, 2005, and 2009 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship, as well as the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup with England. She also played in the 2007 China Cup against the United States, Germany and China where she was named the player of the tournament.

Smith was voted third in the 2009 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, fourth in 2007 and fifth in 2006 and 2008.

Christine Sinclair

Christine Sinclair (born 12 June 1983 in Burnaby, British Columbia) is a Canadian soccer forward currently playing for FC Gold Pride of Women's Professional Soccer and is a member and captain of the Canadian National Team.

In 2002, she scored seven goals for Canada in the Women's Gold Cup, tying her for the tournament lead with teammate Charmaine Hooper and USA's Tiffeny Milbrett, a fellow Portland alumni. She played for Canada in the inaugural FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship. Sinclair's 10 goals in the tournament, still a record, helped lead Canada to a surprising second-place finish, and earned her both the Golden Boot as leading scorer and Golden Ball as tournament MVP.

Sinclair chose to redshirt in 2003 in order to play for Canada at the Women's World Cup. She scored three goals in that tournament as Canada finished a better-than-expected fourth. She returned to Portland in 2004, scoring 22 goals that season, and was again named WCC Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. She also won the Hermann Trophy that season.

She earned her 100th cap on August 30, 2007 in a pre-World Cup friendly match against Japan. In December 2009, she was named female selection for the Canadian Players of the Year award for a fifth-straight season.

At the age of 27, she is already the all-time leader in goals scored for the Canadian national team with 107. On November 8, 2010 Sinclair scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the final of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, also acting as a Women's World Cup Qualifing Tournament.

Marta Vieira da Silva

Marta Vieira da Silva (born February 19, 1986 in Dois Riachos, Alagoas), commonly known as Marta, is a Brazilian women's football forward currently playing for FC Gold Pride of Women's Professional Soccer. She is also a member of the Brazil women's national football team.

She has been four times awarded FIFA Women's World Player of the Year (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). She was a member of the Brazilian National Teams that won the silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. She was also named the Golden Ball (MVP) at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship (six goals in tournament), in which Brazil finished fourth. In the 2007 Women's World Cup, she won both the Golden Ball award as the best player and the Golden Boot award as the top scorer.

On July 26, 2007, Marta and the Brazilian women's team beat the US U-20 National Team to win the Pan American Games at the famous Estádio do Maracanã in front of a crowd of 68,000. She was compared, by the Brazilian fans, with Brazilian great Pelé, being called "Pelé with skirts". Even Pelé himself agreed with the comparison. Marta has stated that he called her to congratulate for the win and that she was extremely happy to hear that one of the greatest ever players followed her team's games. Afterwards the imprint of her feet was recorded in cement at the stadium, making her the first woman to be so honoured.

Marta participated in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup with Brazil. Brazil strolled through their group, winning all three games, with Marta scoring a brace in the first two matches. Brazil won 3-2 over Australia in the quarter-finals on September 23. Marta scored 2-0 from the penalty spot and is now equal with Norway's Ragnhild Guldbrandsen in the World cup top scorer award with 5 goals. On September 27, Marta scored two goals in the semi final of the World Cup as Brazil won 4-0 against the United States, the second goal scored in spectacular fashion. Marta finished the 2007 Women's World Cup as the top individual player, but was unable to win the championship losing to Germany in the final match 2-0 and having a penalty kick blocked by the German keeper which would have tied the match midway through the second half of play. She finished as top scorer and was named best player of the tournament.

Birgit Prinz

Birgit Prinz (born October 25, 1977 in Frankfurt am Main) is a German international football player. She is one of the game's most prolific strikers and the Women's World Cup all-time leading scorer with 14 goals. Prinz plays for FFC Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga.

Prinz made her first appearance for Germany's national team on 27 July 1994 at the age of 16 against Canada. She entered the game in the 72nd minute and scored the game-winner in the 89th minute. In 1995 she was the youngest player to ever play in a World Cup final. She is a mainstay of the team since and holds several records. In November 2003 Prinz was determined as captain of the team. As part of the German football team Prinz has won the World Cup twice, in 2003 and 2007. She also won the UEFA Women's Championship five times. Prinz is the all-time leading scorer at World Cups with 14 goals as well as all-time leading scorer at Olympic Games with 10 goals (jointly with Cristiane). With 205 international games Prinz has played the most internationals of any European footballer and is amongst the top ten worldwide.

Hope Solo

Hope Amelia Solo (born 30 July 1981, in Richland, Washington) is an American soccer goalkeeper currently playing for Saint Louis Athletica of Women's Professional Soccer and is a member of the United States women's national soccer team.

Solo played soccer with the Three-River's Soccer Club in the Tri-Cities. As a forward at Richland High School, Solo scored 109 goals, leading her team to three consecutive league titles from 1996–1998 and a state championship in her senior year. She was twice named a Parade All American.

At the University of Washington, Solo switched to the goalkeeper position and was the team's all-time leader in clean-sheets, saves, and goals-against average (GAA). She was a four-time All-Pac-10 selection and a three-time NSCAA All-American.

On June 23, 2008, it was announced Solo would be the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In a reversal of roles from the 2004 Olympics, Brianna Scurry did not make the team, though she was an alternate. On August 21, the U.S. women's team won the gold medal by defeating Brazil 1–0 in extra time in no small measure due to Solo's outstanding performance as she stopped an energetic Brazilian attack, making save after save.

Kristine Lilly

Kristine Marie Lilly Heavey (born Kristine Marie Lilly on 22 July 1971, in New York City, New York) is an American soccer forward/midfielder currently playing for Boston Breakers of Women's Professional Soccer and is a member of the United States women's national soccer team. She is the most capped men's or women's soccer player in the history of the sport.

Lilly made her debut for the United States women's national soccer team in 1987, when she was still attending high school. During her international career, she surpassed the previous women's world record of 151 caps, held by Norway's Heidi Støre, on 21 May 1998. On 30 January 1999, she surpassed what was then the men's record of 164 caps, held by Adnan Al-Talyani of the United Arab Emirates.

Lilly has participated in the 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2007 editions of the FIFA Women's World Cup. She is a two-time World Cup champion, winning in 1991 and 1999. When she played against North Korea on 11 September 2007 in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, she became the first woman (and only the third player overall) to participate in five different World Cup Finals; by scoring a goal against England on 22 September 2007, she became the oldest woman to score in the World Cup.

Lilly has also competed in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 editions of the Olympic Games. She won a Gold medal in 1996 and 2004, and a Silver medal in 2000. She missed the 2008 Summer Olympics due to the birth of her child.
Unlike several of her longtime teammates (among them Joy Fawcett, Julie Foudy, and Mia Hamm), she did not retire after the team's "farewell tour" of the United States, which finished on 8 December 2004.

On 18 January 2006, Lilly made her 300th international appearance in a game against Norway, a world record for both men and women (in the same match, she equaled Michelle Akers for second place on the team's all-time goal scoring list with 105). Lilly was named as a finalist for the 2006 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year. She finished second in the voting to Brazil's Marta.

Brandy Chastain

Brandi Denise Chastain (born 21 July 1968, in San Jose, California) is a professional American soccer defender and midfielder currently playing for FC Gold Pride of Women's Professional Soccer and is a former member of the United States women's national soccer team.

Chastain has played for San Jose CyberRays of the WUSA and California Storm of the WPSL. She is best known for her game-winning penalty against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final and her bra-baring celebration afterwards.
